Nicolette is a leading member of the generation of lawyers that entered the profession when Malta became a member of the European Union, fourteen years ago.
Her work and research has steadfastly followed the trends and the opportunities that the Single Market opened to our jurisdiction: When the rules on State Aid and uncompetitive practices came into force she made deregulation the focus of her practice accepting engagements in the field of competition law and monopoly busting. Her work was so highly regarded that the Ministry of Transport asked her to author important legislation that liberalized several modes of transport in Malta.
After that, when it was clear that Malta was headed towards becoming one of the world’s principal jurisdictions for tax structuring she built , and now leads, the firm’s tax and corporate services group. Work is referred to the firm by her peers from all over the world.
At each juncture, Nicolette ensured she was ready for the challenge by going back to the books. Aside of her doctorate in law, she has a Masters degree in the Economics of Competition Law, and is an international tax advisor ( www.adit.com) as well as holding qualifications in Maltese tax.

Kris read law at the University of Malta in 2010 and was admitted to the Maltese Bar in March 2011. He joined AE in 2012 and was admitted to partnership in 2018.
Kris has garnered a breadth of experience in both commercial law, having advised a number of international corporates, as well as in dispute resolution and litigation which is now his main focus.
Kris maintains an uncommon profile as a litigator and beneath his urbane manner is a tenacity that his clients value and seek. In his insolvency work, in different major cases, he has been crucial and effective when representing both creditors as well as debtors.
As the firm’s Litigation Partner, he leads a team of other litigators who have deep experience in tax litigation, commercial and civil law disputes. He has been engaged in several cases involving internet based parties and is closely following the development of the legal framework regulating virtual financial assets in Malta and other jurisdictions , as its rise will inevitably become the merit of local and cross-border litigation.
Kris is a member of the Chamber of Advocates and holds a certificate in ‘Trust Law & Administration’ (2011) and ‘An Introduction to the Virtual Financial Asset Act’ (2018) from the Institute of Financial Service Practitioners.

Kris Scicluna

Karl graduated Doctor of Laws in 2014 after he successfully defended his thesis ‘The Takeover Bids Directive: a Critical Analysis of its Implementation in Malta and other EU Member States’, and was admitted to the Maltese Bar in March 2015.
As a final-year law student and trainee at Ganado Advocates, Karl also co-authored the Maltese Legal Rating chapter of Philip R Wood QC’s ‘World Universities Comparative Law Project’ (Allen & Overy, 2014)
Joining as an Advocate in 2014 upon completing his studies, Karl was subsequently promoted to an Associate in 2015 and more recently to Senior Associate within the firm’s Litigation Department.
Karl regularly pleads civil, commercial and company law cases before the Inferior and Superior Courts of Malta, as well as being responsible for cases at the Malta Arbitration Centre. Perhaps ironically, Karl always strives to help his clients in seeking amicable resolutions to their disputes, and has in fact negotiated and drafted several out-of-court settlements on his clients’ behalf.
Karl has also represented several clients before the Public Contracts Review Board (PCRB) in public procurement matters.

Karl Tanti

Luke joined AE in 2016 as a trainee in the firm’s corporate services department.
Luke read law at the University of Malta from 2010 to 2016, and submitted his thesis entitled 'Long-term shareholder engagement in European company law: a legal analysis of shareholder rights and roles'. He also spent a semester in Rome, Italy reading company law and intellectual property law at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, and was admitted to the Maltese Bar in February 2017.
Luke is part of the corporate services department and assists both local and international corporate clients.
Luke is a member of the Chamber of Advocates and holds a certificate from the Institute of Financial Service Practitioners following the successful completion of ‘An Introduction to the Virtual Financial Asset Act’ (2018) course.

Luke Masini
Senior Associate
Bernice is an experienced legal professional with a diverse background in both public and private sectors. She graduated with a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) in 2017 from the University of Malta, where her thesis, Backdoor Encryption Policies: A Legal Dilemma, addressed the complex intersection of digital security and privacy law.
Throughout her academic career, Bernice was deeply involved in student organizations, notably serving as President of ELSA Malta, where she advocated for legal education and professional development. Bernice did her training as a student with AE Legal and later was selected for a Bluebook Traineeship with DG Connect at the European Commission in Luxembourg, where she gained invaluable experience in EU digital policy and regulatory matters, following this stint, she then transitioned into the private sector, specializing in corporate law, data protection, and digital assets.
After some time in the private sector Bernice joined the Office of the State Advocate as a litigator where she represented government entities in various legal matters, specialising in constitutional, administrative, property, health and agrifish. She further expanded her legal experience serving as a court attorney to the Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court, assisting in the drafting of judgements.
In addition to her legal qualifications, Bernice holds a Certificate in Tax and has chosen to continue to pursue her studies in the legal fields.
Bernice rejoined AE Legal in June 2025.

Sean is an Associate lawyer in the Litigation Department, having joined AE Legal in April of 2023. Sean read Law at the University of Malta where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 2021. In 2022 he graduated with Master of Advocacy and was subsequently called to the bar in October 2023.
Before joining AE Legal, Sean had also read for a Bachelors (Honours) and Masters in European Studies at the University of Malta, subsequently having worked for over a decade in Government, specialising in Foreign Affairs, Trade matters and Defence related matters.
Sean is currently specialising in Civil Litigation and Contract Law.

Andrea has joined AE in July 2021 as a Legal Intern.
Andrea read Law at the University of Malta where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 2021 after having submitted his dissertation entitled ‘An analysis of the prevention of corruption in sport act in the light of Malta’s refusal to sign the Council of Europe’s convention on the manipulation of sports competitions’. In 2022 he graduated with Master of Advocacy.
During his time at AE, Andrea has mainly worked within the firm’s corporate services department. Under the guidance of the warranted lawyers of AE Legal, Andrea has worked in different areas of the law. These include Compliance, Company Law, and Contract Law.
Andrea also helps with clients in the Gaming Sector, namely concerning the obtainment of gaming licenses (both local and foreign) and with the fulfilment of their respective regulatory obligations.

Christine Borg Millo is an associate in the Corporate and Commercial Department at AE Legal, specialising in employment law, industrial relations and HR management, while also advising clients on related civil and commercial matters. Christine graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree in 2022 and a Master of Advocacy, with Merit, in 2023 from the University of Malta, complemented by an Erasmus+ placement at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. She is a warranted advocate to practise law in the courts of Malta, having previously held leadership roles within the European Law Students’ Association and completed a Schuman traineeship at the Cabinet of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in Brussels. Christine is also a member of the Malta Employment Lawyers Association.

Matthew joined the Firm back in 2020 - fresh out of his first year of legal studies at the University of Malta, from where he ultimately gruaduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Masters of Advocacy in 2023 and 2025 respectively. This 4-year co-existence of academic studies and legal internship has allowed him to continuously find a medium of practical application of the legal doctrines and jurisprudence that he was studying at University, paving the way for his admission to the bar in 2025. In addition to this, his stint as Director for Academic Affairs within ELSA Malta has contributed to making him an invaluable team player.
While Matthew takes a keen interest in topical public law matters - submitting his dissertation entitled 'The Interplay between Vested Rights, Legitimate Expectations and Government's Right to Govern and Change Policy - With Particular Focus on Development Planning Legislation' and contributing in a report prepared by AE Legal titled 'A Review of the Freedom of Information Act (Chapter 496 of the Laws of Malta)' through extensive comparative research, his main area of practice remains the field of civil and commercial litigation.
Matthew has been a key player in the successful resolution of a number of disputes in wide-ranging fields of law. He has assisted clients in cases regarding breaches of commercial contracts, violations of fundamental property rights and insolvency proceedings on the one hand, and in more technical litigation between major operators in the local Liquified Petroleum Gas market and intellectual property claims involving the pharmaceutical industry on the other. Depth of research and clarity of strategy are distinctive of Matthew's work in all these briefs.
Matthew is currently reading law at the University of Vienna, where he is following an LLM in European and International Business Law - an experience that is bound to widen his scope of expertise. AE Legal looks forward to welcome Matthew back into its fold upon his successful completion of this LLM.
Matthew Camilleri

Erica is a dedicated legal trainee with experience in civil litigation and a strong academic background in Maltese and European law. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Malta in 2024, where she submitted her dissertation entitled “The Use and Abuse of Precautionary Warrants” in partial fulfilment of the degree of Bachelor of Laws (Honours). She has also successfully completed a Master of Advocacy at the University of Malta. During her studies, Erica also spent a semester abroad at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands as part of the Erasmus Exchange Programme, where she deepened her understanding of international legal systems and cross-cultural collaboration.
Before joining AE Legal, Erica gained valuable experience through several legal internships, where she developed a solid foundation in civil procedure and advocacy, as well as enhanced her analytical and research skills. She also worked at the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) as a Due Diligence and Enforcement Analyst, where she was involved in compliance checks, legal interpretation, and comparative research across EU jurisdictions.
Currently, she works a Legal Trainee with AE Legal, where she is actively involved in civil litigation, assisting senior lawyers in case preparation.
